Dear parents/carers,

It’s hard to believe we are already in the last term of the school year. Time goes by so quickly! If your child is leaving us to move to primary school you will soon be given information about the arrangements for visiting their new school and for the staff to visit the children here.

As always we have lots of exciting things planned for the next few weeks so keep an eye on the notice board and texts.

Staff update

We will soon be saying goodbye to Mehruk who is currently working in our Birth to 2 room but has also covered in other rooms, we wish her all the best for the future. We are looking forward to welcoming back Noshaba in Green room who will soon be returning from maternity leave. Also congratulations to Salma from Green room who recently gave birth to a baby boy.

We have been busy recruiting some new admin posts so you will soon see some new faces on reception and in the offices.

Girlington Growers

Amanda and I and some of our parents and local residents along with St Philip’s Church have been very busy over a couple of Saturday mornings in May litter picking and planting spring plants around Washington Street. We gave away some window boxes filled with plants to people who live opposite the school. Litter is a real problem in the area and is making the streets around the school look really awful. Please can you all make an effort to remind people to throw their litter in the bin and not on the streets?

Free school

As many of you will know, sadly, we were unsuccessful last summer in our application to open a 4-19 Free School (primary and secondary). However the good news is that we are planning to apply again as soon as the general election is over. We feel our current bid is much stronger than last year and we have support from Lord Andrew Mawson who is liaising with the local authority on our behalf and William Nabarro who has links to the Department of Education. Although nothing is guaranteed we are optimistic about the outcome. Keep an eye on our website for news.

Finally this month we are thinking about all our families who are fasting during Ramadan. We hope you are blessed with peace and a time for reflection and renewal.

I would also like to wish all our children, families and staff a warm, sunny and happy summer.

Anne-Marie
