Support for New Arrivals and Roma Engagement

St Edmund’s Nursery School and Children’s Centre has been recognised for its strong work with children and families who were new to English and/or new to education. As a Centre of Good Practice for New Arrivals, we have supported many schools in working effectively with Roma, Central, and Eastern European communities — and we are happy to continue offering this support today.

What We Offer

We provide flexible support packages tailored to each organisation, including:

  • Staff training on Roma engagement and supporting new-to-English learners

  • Side-by-side support, modelling effective family engagement strategies

  • Translation and interpretation (depending on your package)

  • Improving attendance and punctuality

  • Strengthening home–school relationships

  • Effective approaches for children with English as an Additional Language (EAL)

  • Communication support for parents with limited English or home-language literacy

  • Support for school readiness and smooth transitions

  • Bespoke help for families experiencing financial, health, or legal challenges

  • Guidance on engaging parents in SEND processes

  • Positively recognised by Ofsted (2019) for strong community engagement
